APPEAL PROVISION
LOCAL GOVERNMENT COMMISSION AUTHORITY QUESTIONED The conference in Hamilton on December sth |of delegates to the county councils’ ward conference are to be asked by the Waipa County representatives to support the efforts of the Papanui County Council to have provided in the legislation provision for appeals against the decision of the Local Government Commfcflon. It ’was Claimed .the 1946 legislation was fundamentally unsound because, in effect, it denied the people in a county from having the democratic right of self-government. “The provision for an appeal contained in the Act is inequitable and a travesty of British justice,” declared the Papanui County chairman in his letter seeking .support. He suggested that thef rights and iprivilieges of people in counties were less than those of people in a borough or town district.
Waipa County councillors expressed themselves as being sympathetic.
