PUKEATUA NEWS

FAREWELL GATHERING A wide section of the community gathered at the residence of Mrs J. O. Roigard, on Saturday afternoon to honour Mr and Mrs G. E. Woods, who are leaving the district for Putaruru. in the form of an afternoon tea-party with competitions and song, the occasion was a pleasant one. On making presentation of a handsome china cabinet from the citizens, of Pukeatua, Mr F. O. Kurth, expressed the regret of losing the cheerful and untiring services of Mrs Woods in h6Y connections with local organisations and that the absence of Mr Woods would no doubt deprive the district of an excellent tradesman. On behalf of the Women’s Division, Mrs F. Holmes, then presented Mrs Woods with a wall mirror in appreciation of her active work in the Division of which she was secretary. Mrs Holmes also remarked that Mrs Woods’ splendid characterisation when contesting in the Drama Festivals would be well remembered. Two young members of the Sunday School then gallantly presentd Mrs Woods with a small gift and bouquet. In reply, Mr Woods thanked the speakers for their kind remarks conveyed to himself and Mrs Woods and for the generous gifts , saying it was only with great regret that they must leave Pukeatua but to further the education of their growing children it seemed the only practicable move.
