ROTARY CLUB

WEEKLY MEETING The Te Awamutu Rotary Club held its weekly gathering in the Regent Lounge last night. Mr Des. Williams, vice-president, presided in the absence of President Phil Quick, who was farewelling his son, Ray, who is leaving to study at the University of Massachusetts. Rotarian visitors to the meeting were G. R. Thompson who brought greetings from the Morrinsville Club, and J. Leggett, of Gisborne. Mr L. Patterson was also a visitor to the meeting.

Apologies were received from Rotarians Harold Scott who was in Napier, Doctor Clough Blundell who was ill and confined to his home, Jeff Bundle and Ken Kelly who were in Rotorua, Geoff Gibbs who was in Kawhia, H. Rochfort, and Joe Sterritt who was in Rotorua. Des. Williams issued congratulations to Rotarian Reg Warner cn the birth of a daughter and to Lew Hodgson on being made a grandfather for the second time. A letter was read to the meeting in a heavy Scots brogue by A. J. Sinclair which created a humorous interlude. A letter was also read to the meeting from the Rotary Club of Huntingdon, England, and thanking Rotarian Jack Russell for a food parcel. Mr John Edwards was the guest speaker for the evening and he gave an address on the hinterland of Australia. At the conclusion of his talk, a vote of thanks was issued by Rotarian Lew Hodgson and was carried by acclamation.
