LIQUOR NEAR HALL

YOUNG MAN’S OFFENCE INCIDENT AT PIRONGIA Noel James Robert Ormsby was charged before Mr S. L. Paterson, S.M. in the Te Awamutu Court yesterday on a charge of having liquor in his possession at a dance hall. Defendant entered a plea of guilty. Sergeant A. Bisset said that the offence was detected while Constables Williamson and Aldridge were on duty at the Pirongia Hall where a dance was in progress. They saw four bottles of beer on the floor of a truck. It was the first time that the defendant had been in trouble for he was a young man of excellent character. The defendant said that the beerhad been put in the truci: in the morning and owing to the rush of farming duties its removal had been overlooked. In reply to the Magistrate, the Sergeant said there had not been any drinking of the liquor at the hall. Defendant was convicted and fined £1 and ordered to pay Court costs 10s.
