Large Catch at Kawhia Messrs W. Woodward and J. Franklyn fishing in the Kawhia Harbour during the week-end, caught fiftyfive large schnapper. The catch was one of th? largest recorded on one day for some time past. Wasps at Kihikihi The wasp menace has spread to Kihikihi. A small party have destroyed seven wasp’s nests; the method adopted being to uncover the nests, all of which were underground, and then pour benzine down th.? holes with the result that the wasps were easily captured. Resignations of Hospital Staff The resignations of two sisters, six staff nurses, nine nurses, and five hospital aids were submitted to the monthly meeting of the Waikato Hospital Board and accepted with regret. The chairman (Mr H. D. Caro) moved that they be thanked for their services. Hospital Site That a suitable site had been founds at Raglan for a hospital building was' stated at a meeting of the Waikato Hospital Board in Hamilton on Monday. Mr W. J. Lusty, Board member for Raglan district, said he was very pleased with developments there, and it was resolved by the Board that negotiations should continue. Proud Moment* One of the proudest little girls in Hamilton on Saturday last was Miss Lynette Waters, daughter of Mr and Mrs F. E. Waters, of Teasdale Street, for she had the honour of being singled out by Mr Anthony Eden who shook hands with Lynette in a most friendly manner. Lynette Waters is the mascot of the Rochdale marching team. No Warrant of Fitness For having no warrant of* fitness Charles Henry Washer, was convicted and fined 10s and ordered to pay Court costs 12s by Mr S. L. Paterson, SJM. in the Te Awamutu Court yesterday. Traffic Inspecor M. P. Norris stated that he stopped defendant driving his vehicle in Sloane Street and he was unable to produce a warrant of fitness. Waikato Delegates The appointments of Mrs Ross, M.P., the chairman (Mr H. D. Caro), the superintendent (Dr H. L. Gould), and the secretary (Mr H. C. Burgess) as delegates to the general conference of Hospital Boards, was announced at the meeting of the Waikato Hospital Board on Monday. The general conference is to be held in Wellington on the 4th and sth of May. Waikato Hospital Projects The Waikato Hospital Board, at its meeting in Hamilton on Monday, resolved to apply to the Local Government Loans Board for authority to raise a loan of £380,000 for a term of 25 years at 3i%. The provision of a nurses’ home near Hockin Wing will account for £243,000 of the money borrowed, and extensions to Camp-bell-Johnstone Maternity Ward is estimated to cost £137,0p0. Weed-growth in Streets A suggestion that the growth of blackberry and long grass along the streets in the borough shoud be brought to the notice of Te Awamutu Borough Council was made at last evening’s meeting of the Chamber of Commerce. Members agreed that this matter was urgently in need of attention, and it was resolved that the suggestion be forwarded to the Borough Council. Lease of Private Hotel

The owner of Hiwa Private Hotel, Hami’lton i formerly a private (hospital, did not wish to sell the property, nor was she particularly anxious to lease it, a firm of solicitors advised the Waikato Hospital Board at its meeting on Monday. However, if the board was anxious to lease, the owner would be glad to know what rent the board would be prepared to pay. It was decided to secure a valuation. Sketch Plans Forwarded Proposals and plans submitted to the Waikato Hospital Board’s meeting on Monday included working drawings and specifications for new domestic quarters at the Matamata Hospital. The proposal was approved by the board and forwarded to the Director General of Health for his sanction, as also were amended sketch plans for a casualty department for the Taupo Hospital. Rotorua Hospital Water Supply A letter from the Director-General of Health was received at the Waikato Hospital Board’s meeting on Monday, approving of a proposed scheme for an adequate supply of water for fire fighting needs at the Rotorua Hospital. Approval was also given to the expenditure of £2OO for the provision of a car parking area as well. The board’s architect (Mr A. E. Smith) and the engineer were directed to draw the plans and prepare the specifications with a view to speedy accomplishment of the scheme. Overworked Staff At its meeting in Hamilton on Monday the Waikato Hospital Board decided to advertise for increased nursing staff for Rotorua. Hospital, it being stated in a report by Rotorua district members of the board (Messrs A. J. M. Brown and E. G. Guy) that the matron there was greatly concerned at the serious lack of competent nurses and trainees. The | matron had difficulty in arranging ; days off for the nurses, and long j hours were being worked by the staff. “The position is really desperate”, ‘Stated the report. I Town Milk Supply The desire of an English farmer immigrant to carry .on town milk supply in Te Awamutu was mentioned at last evening’s meeting of the Chamber of Commerce, when it was proposed that application should be made through the Chamber of Commerce to the Milk Marketing Division for information regarding milk supply requirements in New Zealand. The farmer in question, it was stated, had had experience in the same line in England, and was anxious to take up a milk supply business here. The Chamber decided to forward a letter to the Director of Milk Marketing asking that all information be given the farmer referred to as suggested.
