W and Mrs E. M°sley and family have returned to Marokopa after a holiday spent at Buckland’s Beach. Mrs C. Earnshaw, of Ngaroma, is the guest of Mr and M,rs E. Grice, of Marokopa. Mr and Mirs W. D. Neal, of .Te Anga, have returned from a motor tour extending to Port Albert. Mr and Mrs J. Bitossi, of Wfellington, are staying with Mr and Mrs W'. Meyer. Miss Mary Paki has left Kawhia to join the teaching staff of MJamaku School.

Mr and Mrs George Allen and daughter Raewyn returned to Oparau on Monday last after spending the school vacation in Auckland.

Mrs J. E. Gibbons, of Te Maika, left on Wednesday on a month’s visit to Cambridge, Auckland, and Tauranga.

Mr and Mirs T. B. Nelson, of Palmerston North, were the guests for part of the school vacation with Mr J. Bagge, of Marokopa. Mrs Forbes, Mrs Henderson, and Miss Henderson, of New Plymouth, have been staying with Mr and Mirs W. D. Neal, of Marokopa. Mr and Mrs J. Midgley and family, of Christchurch, have been staying with Mirs Midgley’s parents, Mr and M;rs P. Soundy, of Marokopa. Mrs F. Thrush, of Kawhia South, is at present at “ Scotlands,” the Rest Home in Auckland of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers.

Mrs F. Goddard; of Te Anga, who has been the guest of Mr and Mirs R. Hollingdrake, Buckland’s Beach, is at present staying w’ith her daughter, Mrs W-. Hansen, of Hamilton. Miss Joan Fordham, of the Otorohanga District High School z staff, spent the holidays with her parents, Mr and Mrs R. Fordham, of M'arokopa. Successful candidates in the University Entrance examination were Margaret Mosley, daughter of Mr and M;rs E. Mosley, of Marokopa, and Peter Palmer, son of Mr and Mrs C. C. Palmer, of Kinohaku. The death occurred on Monday last of a very old and well-known Maori resident in the person of Awhe Porima. Born 82 years ago, he had resided all his life in Kawhia. except during the years he was being educated at St. Stephen’s College, Parnell, then in its infancy. He never married, but had numerous relations. There was an exceptionally large attendance of Maoris from all parts at the tangi, which was held at Waipapa Pa The funeral service was conducted by the Rev. Wiremu Tonga, of Hamilton.

A quiet but popular wedding was celebrated at the residence of the bride’s parents at Hauturu on Saturday, 29th January, when Nora Whakaara, daughter of Mr and Mrs Tautoko Takiari, of Hauturu, was united in the bonds of holy matrimony to Bird M'anuwaiti, son of Mr and Mrs Wani Kingi; of Taharoa. The officiating clergymen were the Rev. C. E. Roke, of Kawhia, and the Rev. Wire-

mu Tonga, of Hamilton. MKss Minnie Takiari attended hex* sister as bridesmaid, and M'r Tony Kerr was best man. After the ceremony the guests, who came from all parts of the district, sat down to a sumptuous wedding breakfast at which the happy couple were heartily congratulated and wished all good luck in the future. The newly-wedded pair intend to reside in Kawhia South.
