YOUNG FARMERS’ CLUBS AT TAUPIRI HIGH STANDARD IN HORSE EVENTS The annual Farmers’ Sports held at Taupiri last week-end provided some high standards in the horse, events and close finishes in the athletic events. Late harvesting and the fact that other sporting* fixtures were held on the same day resulted in a smaller attendance than usual. Several Te Awamutu entrants were successful. The results df the athletic events were as follows: 100yds, Young Farmers’ Clubs: Dalziel (Waeranga) 1, Burman (Taupiri) 2, Hitchcock (Waeranga) 3. 880yds: Cooper (Taupiri) 1, Patterson (Te Awamutu) 2, McGoven (Waeranga) 3. 220yds: Dalziel (Waeranga) 1, Smith (Te Awamutu) 2, Burman (Taupiri) 3. 440yds: Smith (Te Awamutu) 1, McCurdy (Taupiri) 2, Patterson (Te Awamutu) 3. 880yds mixed relay: Taupiri 1, Te Awamutu 2, Waeranga 3. Points for Young Farmers’ Club Cup: Taupiri 22, Te Awamutu 18, Waeranga 14. Cigarette race: R. Clarke 1, T. Stone 2, N. Clark 3. Three-legged race: Findlay and Friel and Burman and Baucke (equal) 1, Holt and Jeffries 3. Potato race: Murphy 1, Wynyard 2, Holt 3. Steeplechase: Barry 1, Hunt 2, Holt 3. Ladies’ race: Miss J.
