CALF-REARING

STEADY, PROGRESSIVE GROWTH The supplying of whole milk to dairy factories is now a common praetic in this district, which, for farmers rearing calves, means that either whole milk must be fed much longei; or a satisfactory calf-rearing programme found. This programme must be up 1 to the following standards—(l) It must be palatable; (2) it must contain the vital vitamins and minerals necessary for growth and the promotion of a healthy digestive function; (3) it must be cheap enough to enable farmers to rear good healthy calves at a cost less than if they reared them straight out on whole milk.

After years of field work and trial, Messrs W. and R. Fletcher (N.Z.) Ltd. have evolved a calf-rearing programme, designed to fill in all the gaps and to ensure that from birth to maturity the calf’s growth is steady, progressive and sound. First, feed Vite-ADee Calf Emulsion to protect the calf on the change-over, from whole milk. Containing fish liver oil blended with refined animal oils, Vite-ADee Calf Emulsion puts back the “butterfat” vitamins into skim-milk or whey and helps to prevent scouring brought on by a lack of Vitamin A. Being in the form of an emulsion, these vitamins mix right through the skim or whey, so that your calves get full nourishment from them. In a normal season only three or four weeks feedings on Vite-ADee Calf Emulsion is needed. Next, feed Tomoana Calf Pellets in small quantities before and during weaning to cushion the effect of the change of feed. By feeding larger quantities you can wean your calves completely off milk products much earlier, because milk solids are already incorporated in each Pellet. That is why Tomoana Calf Pellets are the one food that is so balanced that, even where milk products are not available, you can use it as a complete food for calves. If you have skim or whey, and later good pasture, you can cut down the quantities of Pellets accordingly. Ask your Produce Merchant for Vite-ADe.e Calf Emulsion and Tomoana Calf Pellets.
