ENGINEER’S REPORT OTOROHANGA COUNTY COUNCIL ' I The following information relative to maintenance and grading operations in the Ridings named is taken I from the monthly report of the engineer (Mr B. McKenzie), as presented I to Monday’s meeting of the Otorohanga County Council: — Te Rrfu-a-Moa Riding: PirongiaNgutunui M.H. 33 c.yds, Cannons 15 , c.yds, Hauturu 15 c.yds, Turitea 45 , c.yds. Total, 108 c.ydsWaipa Riding: Oforohanga-Hanga-tiki M.H. 295 c.yds, Barbers 97 c.yds, Otewa 620 c.yds, Puketawai 3 c.yds, Te Kura 37 c.yds, Veales 5 c.yds. Tahaia Bush 35 c.yds. Total, 1092 c.yds. Wharepapa Riding: Wharepuhunga M-H. 145 c.yds, Arohena 32 c.yds, Happy Valley 3 c.yds, Hingaia 10 c.yds, Kahorekau 40 c.yds. Loop 3 c.yds, Tolleys 10 c.yds, Ngaroma 145 c.yds. Total, 388 c.yds. Total for County, 2172 c.yds.
Te Rau-a-Moa Riding: 581 hours; Waipa Riding: 42 hours; Wharepapa [ Riding: 881 hours. Other matters of interest contained 1 in the report were:— Scooping Plant: At the County I yard dump 80 c.yds were scooped for ’ Puketarata Road, 80 c.yds for Mang- s aorongo M.H-, 80 c.yds for Awatene I Road. The plant was shifted to Wai- . keria and 285 c.yds were scooped for I Wharepuhunga M.H. and 165 for i Ngahape.
Loader Dozer. The machine was i used for one day on Hauturu Road ' and four days on Honikiwi M.H. for j removing’ slips. Ninety-three hours were occupied in loading 1343 c.yds, or 141 c.yds per hour. Crushed Metal: Bitumix Ltd have dumped 1122 c.yds of crushed maintenance metal on the Pirongia Ngutunui M.H-
Workers’ Dwellings: Plans showing the areas to be taken under the Public Works Act for workers’ dwellings at Otorohanga and Maihiihi have been prepared and the owners’ consents obtained. Garage and Tool Shed: A start has been made with the garage and tool shed at the County yard. The foundations and the lower parts of the walls have been poured in concrete. The upper part of the walls will be constructed in concrete blocks, of which sufficient have been made. The building will provide shelter for six vehicles.
The matter of obtaining a winch for the scoop was left in the hands of Cr Rothery and the engineer (Mr McKenzie). In reply to a question the engineer said that the County had only one scoop and another was desirable. The report was adopted
