The ferret which laid wiring in conduits under a new textile factory at Royal Oak about a month ago should have been a union member, according to a letter received by the managing director of the firm from the secretary of the Electrical Workers’ Union, Mr G. A. Allbright. Moreover, tJie union said the firm had broken the Factories Act by not paying the ferret a sufficient wage and ignoring dirt money payment which should have been made as it was working under flooring. Another charge was that the ferret was under the age of 15. The company has been informed that she is a grandmother, and so could be presumed to have the necessary experience to comply with the act.
