Subscribers to the Hamilton Public Library at March 31, 1948, were 1971 adults and 373 children, a total of 2344, said Miss B. Manning, librarian, in her report to the annual meeting of subscribers on Monday night. A total of 175,017 books was issued during the year, comprising 138,962 fiction, 19,641 general and 16,414 juvenile books. Magazines issued numbered 5256, she said. At the end of the year there were 130,674 books in the library, 1443 new volumes having been added and 598 withdrawn. The interloan system had been well used, over 500 requests being sent from the time the library joined the scheme in 1945.
