PROPOSED MEMORIAL

PUBLIC HALL AT HONIKIWI —— OTOROHANGA COUNTY COUNCIL APPROACHED Cr. H. C. Grierson stated at Monday’s meeting of Otorohanga County Council that an incorporated hall society at Honikiwi had made sojne progress in the provision of a public hall which they wished to have vested in the county under the war memorial scheme devised by the Department of Internal Affairs some months ago. The riding member-said- the society had acquired a good central site for the hall -and had 'Sftang’ed .for the ‘.cutting of-timber for’ the building. They had as yet little cash in hand, but had sufficient timber available to build the hall, for which there wag a great demand in the district. He had advised them that the council could do little more than give the venture its blessing. Mr J. L. Wallis (chairman) commented that the point of interest to the people there was the provision to be made to maintain the building after its erection. Cr. R. H.
