Port Waikato was the scene of unusual activity on. Sunday afternoon due to the presence in the port of the tank landing ship Rawhiti which arrived from Honolulu on Friday after a voyage of 19 days. One of the largest vessels to enter the port, the Rawhiti attracted considerable attention, a large number of motorists visiting the port. A large crowd on the wharf watched the 328 ft vessel brought from the stream to her berth.
Successful Appeal A very successful street appeal was held yesterday by the W.D.F.F. (Te Awamutu), the Division’s stalls recording satisfactory sales throughout the day. Fruit and vegetables in particular were in good demand. Prize-winners in the competitions held during the day were: Mrs Cleverly, of Hamilton (tablecloth); Mrs Mexted (groceries); Mesdames J. Curtain (sugar and tea); E. C. Randall (dinner); G. Onion (cake); and A. McFarlane (stockings). The appeal was held to assist in raising funds for the Ladies’ Rest Room which it is hoped to establish in Bank Street, Te Awamutu.
