WEDDING

MELROSE—HAWORTH The marriage took place at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church on October 18th of Muriel Eleanor, only daughter of Mrs and the late Mr George Melrose, and Thomas Fairclough, eldest son of Mr and Mrs W. Haworth, Ohaupo Road, Te Awamutu. The bride, who entered the church escorted by her brother, Mr Jack Melrose, looked charming in a beautiful gown of white lace over satin. The fitting bodice, with long sleeves coming to a point over the wrist, had a small frill oh yoke and neckline, and was buttoned down the back to the shirred peplum, which topped the full skirt that fell in graceful folds to form a train. Her lovely hand embroidered tulle veil (embroidered by her mother) was held in place with a coronet of orange blossom, and she carried a shower bouquet of white iris, shasta daisies and maiden hair fern. The two bridesmaids, Miss June Melrose and Miss Alice Cumpstone, and two flower girls, Annette Frisk and Margaret Haworth, were all dressed alike in frocks of delphinium Blue organdi. Their gathered bodices, short puffed sleeves and bouffant skirts were trimmed with tiny frills and they carried shower bouquet of blue iris, pink stocks and maiden hair fem. ‘Sprays of natural flowers were worn in their hair. Mr Trevor Connelly, of Auckland, was best man, and Mr J. Spiers was groomsman. The ushers were Messrs W. Haworth, R. Stobie, and T. Cumpstone. As the bride left the church she was presented with a satin horse shoe by Gail Quinn. The 150 guests in the Town Hall were received by Mrs Melrose, who wore an ensemme of navy trimmed with white, with navy accessories. She was assisted by Mrs Haworth who chose a suit of natural linen with brown trimmings and brown accessories. For travelling the bride wore a delphinium blue suit trimmed with silver, with black accessories. Many cheques and beautiful presents were received, among them the lovely cake made and presented by Mr E. Olsen, of New Plymouth.
