MEETING OF JAYCEES

HELD IN REGENT LOUNGE SUPPORT FOR VARIOUS LOCAL EFFORTS There was a good attendance at Monday evening’s meeting of the Te Aw'amutu Junior Chamber of Commerce, presided over by President A. Hill. Activities which will engage the attention of Jaycees during the current month include assistance to the Beautifying Society, in connection with the running of side-shows at a function being held by the society in mid-November. Six volunteers were obtained for this purpose. On the 11th November a visit is to be paid to Hamilton by the International President of the Junior Chamber of Commerce movement, who is making an unofficial tour of the world. Later in the month Te Awamutu Jaycees are to spend a day on the golf links at Matamata. The meeting held recently in connection with the Aid to Britain Campaign was referred to by Mr L. A. Truscott. At this meeting, explained Mr Truscott, he had taken it upon himself to pledge Jaycee support on behalf of the sub-committee set-up, and he asked that the Chamber appoint three members for these duties. The president agreed with the. speaker on the need for support for the Aid to Britain Committee in carrying out a worthy project. Members who volunteered to assist on the buying committee of the above organisation were Messrs C. Rickit, A. B. Jennings and L. Lees. The president advised members that the board had recently discussed matters in connection with the constitution of the Chamber and its future functioning. The board believed it had discovered the major defects of the movement as it existed in Te Awamutu, and would shortly put its deliberations before members for their consideration and discussion at the next Jaycee meeting. Two “parents of recent vintage," two prospective borough councillors, and three local body nominators came under the eye of the sergeant - at-arms, who awarded each a suitable penalty for “being in the news.” The meeting was treated to a further address of the consistently high standard which has always been in evidence at meetings of the chamber, the speaker on Monday evening being a young Auckland businessman, who has recently returned from an extensive trip abroad ’and spoke on trade and other conditions in the United Kingdom, Canada and America.
