Stabilisation Question
The grant of an additional £2500 a year allowance to the Governor-Gene-ral and the increase of £250 a year in judges’ authorised in the Finance Bill have been questioned by the central executive of the Wellington waterfront unions, and by the Hutt Valley Branch of the General Labourers’ Union. A special stop-work meeting of the Wellington Watersiders’ Union is to be held to consider what action should be taken. Similar stop-work .meetings, it is understood, will be held throughout New Zealand. The Hutt Valley Labourers’ Union has requested the Federation of Labour to ask the Government if stabilisation is “only for the worker and not for the ‘top men,’-such as the Governor-Gene-'ral and the judges.”
