NOTES FROM KAWHIA

ITEMS OF DISTRICT INTEREST Whenever we observe our “city fathers” in close consultation with important looking government officials our hopes soar to great heights and we visualise big happenings. Perhaps it has been realised that the harbour should be developed as a port! On Monday the chairman and manager and party from the Te Awamutu Power Board made a tour of the town and environs—that event made our hearts beat faster. It is a rare occasion when four grandmothers go out fishing together with not a male to row the boat for them, and they caught some fish too, which is better than most fishermen are doing just at present. The New Plymouth boat came into the harbour at the beginning of ’the week and stayed a day or two. The boat from Auckland Joaded with poles for the electric power line is to arrive shortly and it will be heartily welcomed. Personal Notes Mrs Bell, Pirongia, has been staying in. Kawhia. Mrs Ramsay, Hamilton, is on a visit. Mr and Mis Paul, Te Awamutu, have been here on holiday. Mr and Mrs Ellis, Te Awamutu, are in Kawhia. Mr and Mrs Hone have gone on a trio up north. Mr and Mrs West are in Kawhia. Mr and Mrs W. Davies are on holiday up north. Mrs Ivan Davies has gone to Wellington. Miss S. Feirall has arrived to take up her duties at the Kawhia school. Mr Rice is improving in health and it is hoped that he will soon be seen in Kawhia again.
