FRONTIERSMEN

NEW CLUB ROOM OPENED AT TE AWAMUTU On Saturday evening last, forty visiting Frontiersmen from Hawera, New Plymouth, Otorohanga, Auckland, Whakatane, Hamilton, Cambridge and Tii au attended the official opening of club rooms of the Te Awamutu troup of the Legion of Frontiersmen. Leiutenant R. Callis, who presided, extended a welcome to Comnjandant Fi-ndlater of Hawera, and visiting Frontiersmen. Apologies for absence were received from Major Warren and Captain Carncross (headquarters); Captain Blair (D. Squadron); Captain Hickford (L. Squadron); Captain Hooker (Auckland) ; Captain Bridge (Te Awamutu); from the members of J. Squadron (Tauranga); Frontiersmen Green (Cambridge), and V. Marshall (Thames). The latter, a former O.C. of F Squadron (Te Awamutu), sent his very cordial good wishes to old comrades.

After the loyal toast, and the toast to the Nine Thousand, Commandant Findlater congratulated the .troup on obtaining premises and he proceeded to officially open the building. In doing so he expressed the hope that it would serve for many years to further the aims and objects of the Legion. It stood as” an evidence of the progress made to date at Te Awamutu and of the loyal enthusiasm of the members concerned.

The proceedings which were in the nature of a happy re-union were most enjoyable, and much good fellowship prevailed. The following toasts were honoured. Combined ser-’ vices, proposed by B. C. O’Connor, responded*to by T. Wiallace (Cambridge); Visitors, proposed by Lieutenant Kerr, and responded to by Captain R. Whittaker (Whakatane); Artists, proposed by Lieutenant R. Callis and responded to by H. Hey; The Orderlies, proposed by Lieutenant Rodda (Hamilton), responded to by Sergeant C- Foster. The contributing artists to the programme were B. Grenfell, Hey Bros., T. Wallace and W. Whitehead. A very enjoyable evening was brought to a close by the singing of Auld Lang Syne.
