WAIPA COUNTY COUNCIL GENERAL MAINTENANCE CONTINUED At the regular meeting of the Waipa County Council on Monday, the engineer, Mr W. Graham Macky, reported:— Kaipaki Riding: Routine grading has been done and a part time suffaceman has been engaged. Pukekura Riding: The more important repairs carried out were on Te Awamutu-Cambridge main highway, Cambridge-Roto-o-iangi .main road and Kairangi Road. The usual surface work and grading were undertaken and numerous other roads in the rid 4 ing received attention. Rangiaohia Riding: Extensive repairs were carried out on Storey, Te Rahu and Peake Roads, and several other roads, in the riding received attention. Puahue Quarry was closed on account of a slip at the hoppers, but the supply of rough rock to ratepayers was interrupted for only a short-time. Contractor Appelbe is busy repairing the damage caused by the slip and hopes to be crushing again at an early date. Several slips were removed from the Ellicott Block roads. Trees' planted ill the Puahue Quarry reserves have been replaced where necessary and the areas around trees cleaned.

Orakau Riding: Considerable attention was given to the ParaweraWharepapa main road during the month, and the main highway and Te Awamutu-Kihikihi Flat Road were repaired. Mangapiko Riding: Weather and extraordinary traffic caused widespread road failures in this riding, notable among which were. Sings, Ryan and Rice’s Roads. A total of 16 roads required urgent attention in addition to normal maintenance.

Kakepuku Riding: The main highway was repaired with metal chips. This riding has escaped to a great extent the damage brought about in other ridings by weather, etc. A small bridge on Kakepuku Mountain Road near Hollingshead’s was repaired. General: Most of the damage caused by persistent wet weather has been repaired and there has been a steady improvement in the condition of all roads.

County Houses:—Te Rapa: Awaiting fibrous plaster lining. Other work proceeding satisfactorily. Leamington: Frame and weather boarding completed. Work proceeding. Te Awamutu: Weather roof completed. Work proceeding. Te 'Kowllai: Additions* completed.
