LEAGUE OF MOTHERS

KIHIKIHI BRANCH SUCCESSFUL MEETING The annual ’ meeting ,* of the above branch was held at the home of Mrs Curtis. There was a fair attendance of members, apologies being received from Mesdames Barclay, Riley, J. Anderson, Murton. Robinson and Harper. <The meeting opened with the League of Mothers’ hymn, followed by the recital of the rules and regulations and members’ Prayer for Peace. The thought for the month was given by Mrs J. Curtis. The flower competition resulted with Mrs Curtis first and Mrs Oldham second.

Mrs Oldham, before vacating the , chair; thanked the secretary imittee -and all members ufpr p : support during the' past, year afid- pi e- ( esnted each with a shoulder spray. The officers for the ensuing year were as follows:—President, Mrs Oldham (re-elected); secretary, Mrs W. Andersson (re-elfected); vice-pre-sidents, Mrs Mcßae (re-elected), Mrs G. McGhie; treasurer, Mrs A. Anderson; telephonists, Mrs Crow, and Mrs Selby; magazine secretary, Mrs McRae; official pianists, Mrs W. Andersson and Mrs Selby. Arrangements were then made for the birthday party and a dainty afternoon tea was served, after which Mrs Oldham pronounced the Benediction. Mrs Curtis was then accorded a vote of thanks for a very pleasant afternoon.

In the course of her report for the past year, the president remarked that with the cessation of war and the return of our loved ones from overseas, this year has indeed been a happy one for the branch. Our monthly meetings have been well attended and social intercourse enjoyed. Three new members have joined us during the year. Mrs Robertson, a member of the Helensville branch, has addressed our meetings on two occasions, and Rev. Sullivan, a returned padre, gave us a very inspiring talk on “The Care of vhe Wounded” and conditions in Italy. In November we held our annual garden party.' This was well attended and enjoyed by all present. In March, together with the secretary, I had the pleasure of attending the annual conference in Auckland. This was a wonderful gathering, and, to me, h great inspiration to see between six and seven hundred women gathered together in the great bond of friendship and uaity. Later we also attended a meeting of country delegates at Mrs English’s home, where members discussed various incidents connected with the L.0.M.. Later in the year we visited the home of the president of the Hamilton branch. There we met officers of Frankton, Hamilton East, Melville and Tokanui branches. These visits and discussions very helpful. The sympathy of our branch goes out to one member who suffered a bereavement during the year and now lies ill in the Wellington Hospital. We all do wish her a speedy recovery and pray that she will goon be meeting with us again.

In conclusion, I would like to thank the secretary and all office-bearers for the help they have given me during the year and also each individual member for confidence and friendship extended to me. My work as president has been made easy by this spirit of comradeship. Also a word of thanks to our speakers and our hostesses during thei year, and the Te Awamutu Courier for reporting our meetings, remembering the co-opera-tion of each individual makes for success.
