FINALE TO CARNIVAL
CORONATION CEREMONY FUNCTION AT POKURU The grand finale to the carnival conducted in the Pokuru district was held recently when the coronation ceremony was conducted, and a most beautiful and pleasing spectacle was presented. The throne had been erected on the stage, and the procession from the main door of the hall to the stage was headed by the chairman of the carnival committee, Mr S. H Wiest, and the Herald, Mr A. Gray, Then followed the Court minstrel, Mr Wi. Corboy; the Crown Bearer, Mr C. S. Alexander; Sword Bearer, Mr A. A. Candy; Ring Bearer, Mr A. O. Law; Sceptre Bearer, MiRay Harris; Large Orb Bearer, Mr A. W. Leek; Small Orb Bearer, Mr A. W. Clements; and Lord High Chamberlain, Mr T. Dunwoodie. Next came the Queen, Miss Helen Alexander, her Ambassador, Mr L. Harris, the Misses B. Candy and E. Harris, Ladies in Waiting, and little Misses ! Mary and Betty Karl, who carried baskets of flowers. ‘
Miss Alexander was invested with the insignia of her high office by the Lord High Chamberlain, and the large audience rose and sang “ God Save the Queen.”
The Herald then announced that Her Majesty had been {graciously pleased to confer the following honours on her loyal subjects: Chief Ambassador, Sir Leslie Harris; Keeper of Her Majesty’s Purse, Lady I. O. Clarke; Mistress of the Robes, Lady Mary Leek; Keeper of the Jewels, Lady John Karl; Chief Physiean, Lady Otway; Beauty Specialist, Lady Mona Alexander; Chief Lady of the Chamber, Lady Jeffries; Master of Her Majesty’s Horse, Sir A. Candy; Court Minstrel, Sir Wynn Corby; Chief Warden of Her Majesty’s Estates, Sir Stuart Alexander; Comman-der-in-Chief of Her Majesty’s Forces, ■Sir Oswald Law; Chief Legal Adviser, Sir Sydney West; and Lord Privy Seal, Sir Roy Harris. Prior to the Coronation W|altz the Court Minstrel sang “ Land of Hope and Glory.” Mr Wynn Corboy also sang “ I’ll Walk Beside You.” At a later stage of the ceremony the Wfaltz was led by the Queen, her Ambassador, the Ladies in Waiting, and their partners.
The public then indulged in excellent music supplied by Schonau’s Orchestra. Greatly appreciated extras were provided by Mr W. Corboy and Mr T. Dunwoodie. Mr Ray Harris and Mr Bruce Boswell were masters of ceremonies. A sumptuous supper typical of Pokuru hospitality was served.
The function was one of the most pleasing, charming, and enjoyable held in Pokuru for ntany a long day, and will long be remembered.
