BUILDING PERMITS
BUSINESS PREMISES LETTER FROM CONTROLLER The district building controller, Hamilton, in replying to the Borough Council’s representations for a fair share of building permits for business premises in Te Awamutu, stated that for some considerable time now all building proposals of a commercial category were referred to the building controller in Wellington, and they were placed before a committee which sat weekly. “You will appreciate that while every consideration is given to the granting of permits, particularly for premises which are required fjfr productive employment that is to say, factory buildings, workshops, etc.—which will have the effect of absorbing increasing; numbers of enlployees, there still remains a very acute shortage of building materials, and it is impossible for the industry to meet all demands. It is proposed that all outstanding building permit applications be reviewed quarterly, and if there is any slack in the industry it will be taken up by the release of permits for those buildings which have the highest priority ratings,” concluded the letter. The letter was received after the Mayor had remarked that it went to show the necessity of business people getting their applications for building permits lodged at once.
