TROTTING AT CAMBRIDGE

GOOD FIELD IN VICTORY HANDICAP LAST MEETING OF SEASON (By “Old Rowley”) ‘ The Cambridge . Trotting Club will stage its winter meeting on the course at Cambridge to-morrow when some very good sport should be witnessed. Main event on the programme will be the Victory Handicap, limit 4.44, two miles, in which Jackalette is likely to attract most attention, although Mourne Spring and Gamester are likely to have many friends. The improver, Jackie Boy, and Durato are worthy of respect, and Spyland should add interest to the contest. Mine Host and Rangi’s Star are improvers and Red Ace is always capable of a good race. Whanako ran two good races at Auckland recently, and Sura Wave ought to make its presence felt. There will be eight races on the programme, the Winter Maiden Handicap being divided into two separate races.

Provided the fine weather keeps up the track should be in good order when the first race starts at about 11.30 a.m. The system of betting in operation will be win and place. Following are horses which should be favoured in their respective engagements:— □First Winter Maiden Handicap, limit v 2.59, 11 miles: Symetra, Laurie Bingen, Robin’s Pride. Karapiro Handicap, trotters, limit 3.43, 1J miles: Swordsman’s Triumph, Legionnaire, Amber’s Pal. Fencourt Handicap, limit 2.57, li miles: Caledonian Gold, Gung Ho, Lady Averil. Cambridge Victory Handicap, limit 4.44, 2 miles: Jackalette, Mourne Spring, Durato. Second Winter Maiden Handicap, limit 2.59, 11 miles: La Diamond, Staveley’s Lad, Awamutu. Visitors’ Handicap, trotters, limit 4.59, 2 miles: Legionnaire, Swordsman’s Triumph, Sabre. Steward’s Handicap, limit 3.34, li miles: Symetra’, Lady Averil, Indian Triumph. President’s Handicap, limit 2.53, 11 miles: Jackalette, Dainty Jewel, Benghazi. LAST DAY OF A.R.C. CARNIVAL GOOD FIELD FOR WINTER STEEPLECHASE A very good field has accepted for the Winter Steeplechase, main race on the final day of the Auckland Racing Club’s Winter Meeting at Ellerslie to-morrow. The Dozer, with 11.3, is topweight, and at his best would be hard to beat, but he must be taken on trust. Town Survey raced honestly at his last start, but had had enough at the finish. Our Nation, of course, after her brilliant victory in the Great Northern, is likely to attract a deal of attention, and is likely to share favouritism with Brookby Song which will not lack for supporters. British Mint won handsomely last, week-end and with 9.9 he should be capable of setting a merry pace. Ngamotu is a very honest sort and Rival is a capable fencer, but so far has shown little form. Paid which won on Monday last has a plodder’s chance, but it is hard to assess the possibilities of Surpai. Abbey Lu must also be considered after the manner in which he hung on in the big steeplechase. Dum- > seems to be set a hard task here and Hunting Chief, which usually jumps safely, might be a better proposition. It looks as if Ellerslie will be favoured with good weather, and the track is likely to be in much better order, so it should not surprise if the unexpected happens in one or two races.

The first event will start at 11.20 a.m. and the system of betting in operation will be win and place. Attracting Attention Tamaki Steeplechase, about‘2X miles: Tanga-ta-Pai, Te Rahu, Bisquit. Orakei Hurdles, 11 miles: Khadim, Foxstar, Betterman. York Handicap, 1 mile: Ruling Master, Good Bay, Findon. Winter Steeplechase, 3 miles: Brookby Song, Our Nation, British Mint. Campbell Handicap, 2 miles: Hunting Mac, Air Port, Hunto. Visitors’ Handicap, 6 furlongs: Nepeta, Panope, Autoscore. First Fitzroy Handicap, 1 mile: General Menteith, Broiealice, Mild Flutter. Second Fitzroy Handicap, 1 mile: Sweet Baffles, Silver Wedding, Kanga.
