COUNTRY TELEPHONES
PARTY LINES OVERBURDENED “There are eleven subscribers on my telephone line,” said Mr Hallyburton Johnstone, National candidate for Raglan, when discussing country telephone services at a meeting at Gordonton. “Very often there are long delays owing to the number of people wanting to use the line. Yet each one of us pays the same annual fee as a town subscriber who has the exclusive use of a direct line of his own.” Mr Johnstone added that he did not know how the other subscribers on his line would get on when he became M.P. for Raglan, but he would certainly agitate to see that country subscribers received a better service at a more reasonable cost.
