Housing For Home Servicemen
That the necessity for proper consideration being given home servicemen in the allocation of housing had been stressed at the Dominion Conference of the New Zealand Home Servicemen’s .Association was reported by Mr Ron Tucker, president of the Te Kuiti branch of the Association, who. recently attended that conference in Wellington, reviewed proceedings there at the last meeting of the Te Kuiti Association committee. Remits had been carried that representation be secured upon the State Advances Corporation Allotment Committee to ensure a reasonable allotment of State houses; that a statement be obtained from the Minister of Public Works as to the priority on which , housing permits are granted; and that a definite statement be obtained as to the qualifications governing the granting of loans to ex-home servicemen. Holding that a 25 per cent, preference for State houses should be made for home servicemen, the conference did not approve of the proposal to allot home servicemen houses from the 50 per cent, preference for returned men. Other remits carried, reported Mr Tucker, urged the necessity for the removal of sales tax from all building and furniture materials for ex-service-men.
