A GROWING SCHOOL

TOUCHING ON SEVEN HUNDRED MARK TEASDALE STREET PRIMARY The Te Awamutu Primary School Committee met on Friday night. Mr L. S. Armstrong presided and associated with him were Messrs J. Waters, A. S. Prisk, M. G. Wall, T. Short, M. Rennie and E. J. Short. The headmaster (Mr N. F. Rigby) and the secretary (Mr L. J. Johnston) were also present. .An. apology was tendered on behalf of Mr E. Menary. The headmaster’s report, which read as follows, was adopted:— I wish to report that all the children are nqw accommodated in the buildings in Teasdale Street. The roll number at the end of last term. was 664 and the present roll is 695. In a few days’ time the 700 mark will be reached which is a large roll for a consolidated school. The two new temporary rooms are urgently required and I hope they will be erected in the very near future. At present the basement room is being used. As our roll number raises the school a sub-grade, an extra teacher has been appointed and is to commence duty on Monday next. To accommodate this extra class I have fixed up the staff room in the new building. These make-shift rooms are most unsatisfactory. Mrs Walker and Mrs Laing have had leave of absence for a fortnight and Mrs Blennerhassett and Mrs Galpin have been relieving. Mrs Blennerhassett has been appointed extra relieving assistant and commences duty on Monday. Mrs Kidson took up duties on 3rd September in place of Mr Lawrie who resigned from the' staff. The girls’ lavatories have not yet been completed. I understand that cisterns are not procurable at the present time. Lack of conveniences is causing much inconvenience. The following other work is still to be completed:— 1. Certain down piping and other plumbing work. 2. Blinds have not yet been erected. Now the hot weather is coming on, it will be necessary to have them put up as soon as possible. 3. Painting of children’s cloakroom, lavatories, steps, board in Standard 2 room, outside walls of old infant building and interior of basement room. 4. Replacement of seven window panes in new building. These were broken putting them in. 5. Swing doors in new corridor. 6. Completion of heating system. One of the windows in Standard 1 room requires attention. The rollers jam in the track and there is also the danger of the window jumping out altogether.

The asphalting of the area in front of the basement has been completed. The various matters mentioned in the report have either been attended or will receive attention.
