ROLL OF HONOUR
KILLED IN ACTION LANCE-CORPORAL A. J.. HALL Advice has been received of the death in action in Italy on 19th October of Lance-Corporal Alfred James Hall. Younger son of Mr and Mrs J. Hall, Oparure, he was born in Palmerston North 25 years ago, and was educated'at the Oparure school. Prior to joining the forces he was engaged in farming on his parents’ property at Oparure. He entered camp in March, 1942, afterwards being posted for garrison duty on Great Barrier Island. Later he saw service in Fiji, returning to New Zealand on furlough at the end of last year. At the beginning of April, 1944, he left for the Middle East, being first drafted to Egypt and then to Italy. Lance-Corporal Hall was a keen sportsman, being particularly interested in shooting and fishing. The news of his death has caused much grief in the Oparure district, where he spent most of his life. He was very popular with young and old, alike.
