VISIT OF MEAT BOARD Discussion took place on the forthcoming visit of members of the Meat Producers’ Board, and it was decided to identify the branch with the Sheep Owners’ Federation in calling a meeting for Te Awamutu on Thursday next to be addressed by members of the Board, and it was further agreed that in future where there are any masters that affect more than one section of the farming community, the matters be referred to, and decided by the Farmers’ Federation, which in eluded the Farmers’ Union, the Sheep Owners’ Federation and other rural organisations.

REHABILITATION It was stated that the formation of the Te Awamutu Rehabilitation Committee had not been completed. Dissatisfaction was expressed with an apparent gap between the interviewing of returned men by committees already functioning and the handling of their cases by the Rehabilitation Board through the State Advances Corporation. If rehabilitation is to be successful, much better organisation would be necessary, the president said. Mr A. E. Bryant stated that at the last meeting of the Auckland Provincial Executive a resolution was carried affirming that the Union will be glad to appoint representatives on Rehabilitation Committee on the distinct understanding that the Union can take no responsibility for the successful rehabilitation of men on the land, except under the conditions set out in the Union’s statement of policy made in May last. (Which included the freehold tenure. —Ed.). Mr Bryant said the Union had been appointed by the Government to help in selecting farmers, and he felt committees of the Union should be set up to watch the interests of prospective farmers after they had'been interviewed by the Rehabilitation Committees. SALE OF PETROL Further action to provide* facilities for the procuring of petrol on Friday evenings is to be taken by approaching Te Awamutu and Kihikihi retailers with a view to having the bowser stations open on those evenings between 7 and 8 o’clock. A ruling has been given that in country districts, where bowser proprietors are agreeable,. petrol may be sold on Fridav evenings. The executive decided to explore the possibility of the Farmers’ Union making, the use of the radios to make known its business. The request for talks 1 on farming topics in the secondary schools was not acceded to by the Director of Education, according to advice received by the Provincial Executive. .
