PRODUCTION FIRST

GOVERNMENT POLICY “ BEFORE MEN FOR THE ARMY ” That production was more important than men for the Army was- emphasised by Mr S. L. Paterson, S.M.. chairman of the No. 2 Armed Forces Appeal Board, during a sitting in Matamata on Monday, before he announced the Board’s decisions on the cases heard. Mr Paterson said:—

“ As the Board understands the policy directions received from the Government, at the present time production is of considerably greater importance than men for the Army'. The policy is that a man must not be taken out of production unless he can be replaced by a grade two man

from elsewhere. Therefore, no man should voluntarily go out of production until he has the approval of the Board. “ The replacement of grade one men in production by grade two men will be done by the man-power officer. When the officer finds a suitable grade two man he will be referred to the Board, which will then go into the matter of his suitability with the Primary Production Council.”
