CAMBRIDGE SALEMessrs Dalgety and Co. Ltd. report having held their usual tri-weekly sale at Cambridge on the sth April, 1943, when a small yarding of sheep and a medium yarding of cattle and pigs came forward to sell under the hammer at well up to late rates. The yarding of pigs comprised mostly porkers and stores. No top weight baconers were penned. We quote:— Sheep.—Fat wethers 28s Id, medium store wethers 21s 6d. ARIA SALE Newton King Ltd. report that at their Aria sale on Monday a yarding of 1200 store lambs and 300 breeding ewes came forward and report a satisfactory clearance at prices a shade lower than sheep were making at our sale last month. More than the advertised number of cattle came forward and were all sold, prices being of less value than our previous sale. HAMILTON STOCK SALE The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Company Limited report: Sheep.—At their weekly stock sale held at Hamilton on Tuesday a smaller yarding of fat sheep was penned. A number* of outside butchers were operating and prices for prime wethers showed a sharp rise. Light and plain sheep were also a shade firmer. A medium entry of fat lambs sold readily at slightly improved rates.

Cattle.—A medium yarding of fat cattle came forward. Values for prime ox beef and cow and heifer beef were slightly firmer than those ruling last week. A large yarding of boner cattle was also penned and values in this section were slightly easier than recent sales. A medium yarding of fat calves met with steady competition and here again values remained firm. Pigs.—A full yarding of fat pigs ! and a light entry of store and weaner pigs came forward. Values for baconers and porkers were slightly lower than last week’s quotations, but store and weaner pigs sold in advance of recent late rates. Choppers also sold well. TAUPIRI SALE The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company Limited reports as follows on its Taupiri sale held on Monday, sth April, 1943. There was an average yarding of cattle, principally fat Jersey cows and boners, with a few bulls and dairy cattle. Prices from the outset were keen and everything changed hands at the hammer. We quote:—Best fat Jersey cows £5 to £6 10s, heavy boners £4 10s to £5, light boners 25s to £3, bulls to £6, springing cows to £8 10s.

The yarding of pigs was well up to the average and all were sold. Light baconers £3 10s,to £3 15s, porkers £2 10s to £3. Store pigs were neglected and brought only nominal values.
