At a meeting of the Te Awamutu Chamber of Commerce consideration was given to the question of lighting and power for the borough, and it was decided that the Minister of Public Works be written to. asking him to advise re the prospects of a supply from Arapuni at a reasonably early date.

Reference to the proposed Arapuni hydro-electric scheme was made by Mr S. J. Harbutt at Auckland, who urged that agitation for the inauguration of the scheme should be maintained. It was, he said, to the interest of both city and country districts that current for industrial purposes and light and heat for domestic use should be supplied at a cheap. rate. He pointed out that one result of the installation of the Lake Coleridge plant was the saving of 50,000 tons of coal yearly. Captain Bellamy, officer commanding No. 4 (Waikato) Group, has been requested to call upon soldiers of the 41st draft to be ready to go into camp during the week commencing April 20 (1918) and men of the 42nd draft during the week commencing May 21.
