TE RORE

- FAREWELL SOCIAL The Te Rore Hall was filled to capacity on a recent evening, the occasion being a complimentary social to Sergeant and Mrs Mawson Lorimer. Mrs Lorimer was presented with a charming boquet by Olwyn Bell, after which the young couple were piped onto the stage in traditional manner by a stalwart Highlander. Mr Finn, chairman for the evening, referred to the sterling qualities of the young couple and extended to them congratulations and best wishes from the people of the district. Mr Finn referred to the magnificent war record of the Lorimer family and asked- Sergeant Lorimer to accept an inscribed wallet.

Eric Coxhead, on behalf of the school children, presented Sergeant Lorimer with an inscribed leather writing case, and Mr Livingstone extended to the young couple best wishes from their Pirongia friends and asked them to accept a gift as a token of their goodwill. The guests suitably acknowledged and were accorded musical honours. At intervals in the dancing the following items were contributed and greatly enjoyed: Songs, Mrs Martin Sullivan and Miss Clark; recitations, Air-Craftman J. Mansfield, and bagpipe selections, Piper Cheyne. Excellent dance music was supplied by Hopping’s Dance Band and the ■function concluded with the National Anthem.
