SHOOTING SEASON

TWO WEEKS FOR DUCKS In an interview, the Hon. W. E. Parry, Minister of Internal Affairs, announced that the War Cabinet had decided that a shooting season of two weeks for ducks and longer for other game, during dates to be announced, would be permitted in the Rotorua district and elsewhere this year. The Minister said that owing to the exigencies of the war fresh supplies of ammunition would not be available, but he appealed to sportsmen who have supplies to pool their resourced so that as much sport as possibly could be enjoyed by all.

Mr Parry said that the Government) had left the question of whether an I open or closed season should be held to acclimatisation societies, some of which favoured an open season and some had decided against it. While this might be disappointing for sportsmen in those districts which had decided to remain closed, the Cabinet felt that it was not a matter where it should interfere, for the societies had a free hand to reach their own decisions.
