HOUSE DESTROYED
TE AWAMUTU BLAZE HEAVY LOSS SUSTAINED Fire destroyed a large two-storied house at Greenhill, Te Awamutu, yesterday afternoon. It was owned by Bombadier R. E. Fowler, who is at present overseas, and occupied by Mrs Fowler and her two children, who were in Te Awamutu at the time of the occurrence. The fire was first noticed by a neighbour, Mrs H. H. Babbage, at about 2.15, and Mrs Babbage immediately telephoned the Te Awamutu Fire Brigade; who concentrated their efforts on preventing the fire spreading, using bucket pumps. There was no hope of saving the house, and it burnt out quickly, together with all the contents. The origin of the fire is a complete mystery. The house was an all-electric one and no fires had been kindled in the grates for some time. Mr and Mrs Fowler will have the sympathy of many friends in the great loss they have sustained. Insurances were not available at time of going to press.
