CAMBRIDGE STOCK SALE The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Company Limited report:— Cattle.—At their stock sale held at Cambridge on Monday a full yarding of beef and boner cattle came forward, and there was a good entry of store steers. Competition was keen throughout the sale, and the whole of the yarding was quitted at satisfactory prices.

Pigs.—A good yarding of all classes of pigs was penned. Baconers and porkers remained firm at recent late rates, but store and weaner pigs were very hard to quit. Quotations: — Cattle.—Prime bullocks £lO to £lO 10s, prime heifers £6 10s to £7 3s, forward 2i-year Polled Angus steers £8 15s to £8 19s, heavy fat Jersey cows £6 14s to £7 9s, good boner cows £4 15s to £5 15s, light £3 l()s to £4 10s, cull cows £2 to £2 10s, bulls £5 to £7 2s 6d.

Pigs.—Choppers to £4 4s, prime top weight baconers £4 8s to £4 Ils, medium baconers £4 to £4 6s, light baconers £3 8s to £3 16s, heavy porkers £2 14s to £3 ss, medium porkers £2 4s to £2 10s, light 36s to £2 2s, large stores 22s to 30s, slips 12s to 15s 6d, weaners 6s 6d to 10s 6d.

FRANKTON SALE The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. Ltd. report as follows on their Frankton sale, held on Tuesday, 23rd March, 1943: Cattle.—A large offering of fat cattle met with an easier demand. Ox and heifer beef sold well, but cow beef sold at lower values. A large offering of boner cows sold under keen competition, while values for a larger offering of vealers were lower. Prices were:—Prime fat Hereford bullocks £ll 7s 6d to £l2 ss, light fat Hereford bullocks £lO 5s to £ll ss, light fat Shorthorn bullocks £8 10s to £9 15s, fat Polled Angus heifers £7 5s to £8 ss, fat Shorthorn cows £7 to £B, fat Polled Angus cows £6 15s to £7 17s 6d, fat Jersey cows £5 to £6 ss, boner cows £2 10s to £4 17s 6d, potter bulls £4 to £6 15s, runners £3 10s to £4 15s, vealers £1 to £3 7s 6d.

Sheep.—There was a larger yarding of fat sheep than last week and prices receded by about Is per head for wethers, fat lambs and fat ewes remaining about the same. There was a large yarding of fat lambs, but in the majority of cases, the quality was not good. We quote: Best fat wethers 27s to 27s 9d, medium fat wethers 25s 6d to 26s 6d, light fat wethers 24s to 255, fat ewes 7s to 12s, fat lambs (shorn) 20s to 22s 6d.

Pigs.—A large yarding came forward, comprising of many unfinished porkers, which owing to the continued dry spell and lack of milk were not so keenly sought after. Store and weaner pigs showed a further decline and were hard to quit. We quote: Baconers (prime top

HAMILTON STOCK SALE The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Company Limited report:— Sheep.—At their weekly stock sale at Hamilton on Tuesday a large yarding of fat sheep came forward. Competition was not as keen as at the previous sale, and last week’s advanced rates were not maintained. Fat lambs were also penned in more than average numbers and prices in this section were also a shade easier.

Cattle.—A medium yarding of all classes of cattle was penned. Values for prime ox beef and cow and heifer beef were slightly easier than last week’s quotations, but values for boner cattle again remained firm at late rates. A medium yarding of fat calves met with good competition, and in this section values remained firm.

Pigs.—Another large yarding of all classes of pigs was penned. Baconers and porkers remained firm at recent late rates, but store and weaner pigs were hard to quit. Quotations:—.
