PROGRESS OF 1942 APPEAL REQUEST FOR CHRISTMAS ' ' PARCELS At a meeting of the Te Awamutu and District Patriotic Committee on -Friday there were present Mr G r 'Spinley (in the chair), Mesdames L. G. Armstrong, Friedlander, Delaney, and Messrs M. Barnett, J. A. Johnson- (Paterangi), M. Friedlander, W. Forsyth (Ohaupo), S. N. Verity (Hai.rini), L. G. Armstrong, Les. S; Armstrong, H. Irwin and A. J. Tailby (secretary). CHRISTMAS PARCELS The secretary reported that the district committee was asked by the Auckland Provincial Patriotic Council to" pack 300 Christmas parcels (unaddressed) by the end of the pi*esent) month and that he had advised the va'rious district committees of their quotas. The parcels would be paid for out of patriotic funds. PATRIOTIC DANCES j * Some.' discussion regarding dances took place, and it was unanimously agreed to accept the offers of various! responsible bodies to take turns in running the" patriotic functions and try to improve the attendances. The following organisations, had already indidh?M ito.'assist:' —.Lines of Communications Organisations, Te Awamutji Parents’ Association, Te Awamutu Fire Brigade, Hairini Patriotic sub-Copiinittee, Te' Awamutu sub-Committee The Kihikihi sub-committee re-, .ported on a .'Case:' in their .district, which called for .investigation, and it was decided that the Rehabilitation Committee should make inquiries immediately. . ? . PARCELS APPRECIATED , Lhe secretary reported that one retutned Maori, soldier who had seen service in England, Greece, Crete and Egypt had called for information and temporary assistance, which had‘been given. The soldier informed the speaker ‘that-he and many others had. received patriotic unaddressed parcels' even, in the front line, and that they Were vepy much appreciated,-especial-ly the razor blades. ALL PURPOSES APPEAL, 1942 The secretary reported that to date £7OOO had been transmitted to the Auckland Provincial Patriotic Fund. This represented £6314 by direct appeal and £686 by other donations and credits held prior to launching the appeal. Letters of appreciation were received from Auckland and Hamilton offering congratulations on the success so far attending the direct appeal. The position on Friday as reported to the meeting was as follows: —Town £1655 0s 6d, allocation £2500; North £1503 17s lid, allocation £2000; South £1378 16s 6d, allocation £3500; East £1778 13s 7d, allocation £3500. Amount required £11,890. The appeal closes towards the end of November and committees and collectors were earnestly requested to make every endeavour to complete their arrears and reach their quotas before that date. It was explained some people might be overlooked in the general canvas, and the hope was expressed that they get in touch with the collectors ahd make their annual donation to the present appeal.
