ANNUAL TOURNAMENT SEVEN-A-SIDE GAMES The annual seven-a-side tournament of the Waipa Primary Schools was held on the High School grounds yesterday. There was keen play among the thirty-five teams, comprising seventeen midget under 6st., ten junior under 7st., and eight senior under Bst 71bs. In the senior grade, Gorst defeated Melrose A 11—3 in the semi-final and Paterangi had a bye. The final resulted in a win for Gorst against Paterangi by 11—3. Thus Gorst hold the Cup for the ensuing year and won a football donated by the Waipa Rugby Union. In the junior grade Parawera defeated Arohena in the semi-final by B—o and Pirongia had a bye. In the final Parawera proved its superiority by defeating Pirongia by 20—0 and won the football donated by the Waipa Rugby Union. The midget grade provided some good play, and, in fifteen years hence, no doubt some of these young players will form the nucleus of an outstanding Waipa senior representative team. Tn the semi-final Intermediate defeated Tainui A 3—o, Arawa A having a bye. Extra time had to be played in the final between Intermediate and Arawa A before a score was registered to give a decision, Arawa A being the winner, 3—o. For their success Arawa A become the holders of the Parrish Banner for the ensuing year and also won a football donated by the Waipa Rugby Union. At the conclusion of the senior competition, Mr J. Elliott, selector and manager of the Waipa Primary Schools’ representative team, selected the team which will be competing in the Gwynne Shield tournament to be held at Hamilton on the Bth August. Arrangements will be made, if possible, for this team to play other representative teams. Mr Smith, President of the Primary Schools’ Rugbv Union, presented the trophies to the captains of the winning teams and expressed his Union’s appreciation to all those jyho had assisted in the running of the tournament and also to the Waipa Rugby Union for donating three footballs.
