PLANS LAID THOUSANDS OF YEARS AGO Hitler launched his plans for the Second World War seven years ago. Happily, Great Britain launched her plans for the Battle of the Atlantic a thousand years ago. If every man, woman and child in the United Kingdom were to save half an ounce of food daily this would mean 250,000 tons of food for each year, and the shipping required to carry the food could, instead, bring enough steel for 10,000 25-ton tanks or 9,400,000 601 b. shells.—lvor Halstead in “Heroes of the Atlantic.”
