WEEK-END DANCES

TE AWAMUTU AND HAIRINI Two very enjoyable dances were held on Saturday night last. For the Patriotic Committee’s dance at the Town Hall the music was supplied by Miss O’Brien’s orchestra, the M.C. being Mr Barnett. A very good crowd, with all the Armed Forces well represented, thronged the floor and joined enthusiastically in the competition, a Monte Carlo, which was won by Miss Betty Pollard and Mr N. Gray. An extra was played by Miss Phyllis Rathbon. After an excellent supper, dancing was resumed till midnight, when the playing of the National Anthem brought the evening to a close. The other dance, held at Hairini, was under the able guidance of Mr A. B. White as M.C., and dancing went with a swing to the music of Mac’s Merrymakers. A Monte Carlo was won by Mrs L. R. Johnson and Mr Les Long, and Mrs A. B. White played an extra. Dancing continued after a delicious supper had been served, the function ending at midnight with God Save the King.
