TE AWAMUTU SALE EXTRA LARGE YARDING An extra large yarding of over 1000 head of cattle and 1200 sheep came forward to Messrs Newton King’s and Wright Stephenson’s and Company’s fortnightly sale, held in the Te Awamutu saleyards on Monday last. All classes of stock were in strong demand, and a very solid sale resulted in practically a 100 per cent clearance in all sections. The offering of 250 head of dairy cattle, including the specially advertised line of 160 2-year Jersey heifers offered on behalf of Mr H. G. Babbage, met good competition to £lO, forward heifers selling freely from £8 10s to £lO, more backward £6 10s to £7 10s, smaller and very backward £5 to £6 ss. The large offering of Jersey calves sold freely to £4 7s, others £3 7s to £4, smaller £2 15s to £3 4s. A large yarding of station cattle sold very freely. Light fat Polled Angus heifers sold to £7 ss, light fat Hereford heifers to £5 15s, m.t. P.A. cows £5 2s to £5 6s, m.t. Hereford cows £4 5s to £5 Ils, m.t. Shorthorn heifers £4 15s to £5 3s, 2-year m.t. Polled Angus heifers £4 7s to £5 Is, 20 months Hereford steers £6 to £6 17s 6d, 20 months Polled Angus steers £6 Is, fat Jersey cows £6 to £7 2s, lighter £5 5s to £5 17s, forward cows £4 5s to £4 15s, stores £3 to £3 18s, boners £2 to £2 17s 6d.

A large yarding of sheep elicited keen competition, fat ewes selling to 13s 6d, forward black faced lambs 16s to 16s 3d, forward wethers 235, store wethers 18s 9d, store lambs 12s to 14s 3d, cull lambs 7s to 9s 6d, 2-tooth ewes r.w. Romney rams 26s- 6d, s.m. ewes r.w. Southdown rams 13s 6d to 15s 3d. HAMILTON STOCK SALE The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Company Limited, report: Sheep.—At Frankton stock sale yesterday a larger than usual entry of fat sheep, including many pens of good quality wethers, came forward. Competition was steady and values remained firm on last week’s quotations. Fat ewes were penned in average numbers, and these again showed a sharp increase on recent sales. Fat lambs maintained schedule rates.

Cattle. —A large offering of all classes of stock came forward, when values for prime ox and prime cow and heifer beef remained on a par with recent sales. A consignment of medium prime Polled Angus bullocks from the Government farm, Ruakura, realised £ll 5s to £l2 9s, medium prime Shorthorn bullocks from Mr J. C. Potts, Bruntwood, £lO 9s to £ll 14s, a choice runner from the same vendor selling for £9 2s. Medium prime P.A. bullocks from Mr R. Martin, of Whatawhata made £lO ss. Fat calves, which came forward in full numbers, remained firm on recent quotations.

Pigs.—A light yarding of fat pigs, together with a medium entry of stores and weaners. The demand for baconers and porkers was very spirited, an/1 prices fully up to last week’s quotations. Stores and weaners were not in demand. Ox beef was penned in average numbers, while there was a full penning of cow and heifer beef, which met with a good demand. Boner cows came forward in full numbers and sold at schedule rates. There was quite a large yarding of mostly good fat wethers, with a few pens of good ewes. We quote as fol-lows:-—Prime fat wethers 29s to 31s 6d, medium fat wethers 27s to 28s, light fat wethers 24s to 265, best fat ewes 17s to 18s 6d, medium fat ewes 14s to 15s, heavy fat lambs to 265, light fat lambs 20s to 235.

Allowing for the reduced number of pigs coming forward, our yarding was an averaged sized one, resulting in keen competition throughout. Top price for baconers was £4 7s. We quote:

Best baconers to £4 2s, others £3 18s to £4 Is, lighter £3 10s to £3 15s, best porkers to £3, lighter £2 5s to £2 16s, stores 30s to 345, weaners 5s to 7s 6d. SALE AT MORRINSVILLE SMALL HEIFER ENTRY Messrs Dalgety and Company, Limited, report having held their usual weekly stock sale at Morrinsville on Friday, 17th April, 1942, as follows: There was again an extra full yarding of boners, which sold under keen competition. Fat cattle were yarded in small numbers and sold at recent rates. The in-calf heifer entry was small and of medium quality. Heifer calves were small, and did not sell as well as last week. We quote:— Cattle: Fat Shorthorn cows £6 15s to £7 10s, light fat Polled Angus heifers £6 2s 6d to £6 17s 6d, heavy fat Jersey cows £5 5s to £6 2s 6d, boners (heavy) £3 17s to £4 6s, medium £2 18s to £3 11s, lighter 15s to 30s, potter bulls 10s to 20s, Jersey heifers r.w.b. £5 15s to £5 17s 6d, Jersey weaner heifer calves £2 to £3 ss.
