SATURDAY’S 'RESULTS MATINEE SPORTS Following are the results of the matinee sports held at the school grounds on Saturday: POINTS PRIZES A grade.—Girli: B. Hastie 1, H. Smith 2. B grade.—Girls: V. Cycle Cup points.—J. Adams 1, W. Semple 2. CYCLING The cycle road race was over a distance of 17 miles and six times round the Pakura Street circuit. A. Cleary was first away, followed 3min 15sec later by J. Adams, and 15secs later by N. Redgate. Two minutes later I. Lawry left, followed limin. later by N. Liddington, the scratch men, J. Oakes and R. Liddington having to wait two minutes. The first rider to show up was Cleary, riding on his own, he having taken roughly ten minutes for the first round; 3.4smins. later came Adams and Redgate together; two minutes later Lawry and N. Liddington were teaming together, and 2mins. later came the scratch men. Clearly was still leading the second round, the otjier bunches still pacing it out and at the third Cleary was still holding them off and riding very strongly, followed by the young riders, J. Adams and N. Redgate, these two being still followed at intervals by Lawry and N. Liddington. and Oakes and Liddington, these two men starting to make up a little time. Cleary still riding along at the fourth and fifth laps, was trailed two minutes later by Adams and Redgate, one minute later to Lawry and Liddington, and one more to the scratch riders, Oakes and R. Liddington. From here on the pace became quicker, but Cleary still held on to win by one minute from J. Adams and N. Redgate. Then came N. Liddington and Lawry, less than a minute away, and less than a minute later the scratch men showed up. This is the first win that Cleary has had in four years of riding and received a great ovation as he crossed the line very fit after a lone ride all the way, making his win all the more meritorious. The following are the finishing places:— A. Cleary (9min 30sec) 1 J. Adams (6min 15sec) 2 N. Redgate (smin 45sec) 3 The fastest time went to J. Oakes (15sec), 49min 54sec; R. Liddington (15sec), 49min 54 3-ssec, being second. Cleary’s riding time was 56min 41sec.
