Pleading guilty to driving a car without due care and attention, Mrs Violet Stott, of Te Awamutu, was convicted and ordered to pay costs in the Magistrate’s Court at Hamilton last Friday. Mr W. H. Freeman, S.M., was the presiding Magistrate.
Two high-class English thoroughbreds, Hippius and Morogoro, were recently lost at sea through enemy action on their way from England to Brazil. Last year Hippius was inquired after by a New Zealand agent, but nd business resulted. He was sold at auction for 3000 guineas to go to Brazil.
The five per cent wage increase recently awarded by the Court of Arbitration definitely does not apply to any wages fixed under the Defence Works Labour Legislation Suspension Order, 1942. This was stated last Friday by the Commissioner of Defence Construction, Mr J. Fletcher, who said he had received a large number of inquiries on this point.
