PUBLIC AMENITIES

Sir, —I have been waiting in vain to see if someone would take up the cudgels in support of “Civic Pride’s” advocacy of early hours for swimming enthusiasts, and the desirability of having name signs on all our streets. To my mind he did not'go quite far enough with his suggestions, in that he might have emphasised also the need for house and shop numbering. Our progressive town surely merits these necessary improvements, and I for one am in hearty concord with your correspondent and hope to see something done in the matter in the near future.—Yours, etc., PROGRESS.
