OTOROHANGA CHARGES SUBSTANTIAL PENALTY Mr W. H. Freeman, S.M., and Mr W. I. Bowyer, J.P., occupied the Bench at a sitting of the Magistrate’s Court at Otorohanga on Wednesday. Herbert Arthur Williams, through his counsel, Mr J. F. Trapski, pleaded guilty to selling and keeping liquor within a proclaimed area and with supplying liquor to a Maori. inspector G B. Edwards, of Hamilton, who prosecuted, stated that as a result of the Maori being intercepted when in possession of liquor, Williams’ residence was raided by the Police and a quantity of liquor seized. Then Bench entered a conviction and fined Williams £5O on the first charge, while on the others he was convicted and ordered to pay costs. An order for the confiscation of the liquor- V 4S duly made. Domenico Russo faced charges of selling and keeping liquor for sale in a proclaimed area. Mr J. F. Trapski produced a medical certificate showing that, on account of the condition of his health, accused was unable to attend Court that day. In the circumstances he asked for an adjournment. The Bench granted the request, the charges to be heard at a sitting of the Court at Te Kuiti on March 16.
