Grass moved from lawns and deposited into ,a heap at the back of a garden, also decaying fruit and vegetable matter, encouraged the breeding of flies in backyards, commented the city engineer, Mr L. F. Row, when a special meeting of the Wanganui City Council was held to consider suburban garbage collections. Mr Row added that if household refuse were properly buried there was no danger of flies and rats becoming a pest. For the past ten years the Council had been burying rubbish on the side of St. John s Hill, and in that period no trouble had been experienced. WHAT’S WRONG WITH THE WEATHER ?
