DRAMA CLUB

“THE MAN FROM TORONTO.” On Tuesday evening the local Drama Club presented Douglas Murray’s amusing play, “The Man from Toronto.” There was a fair attendance and the performers were given an excellent hearing. The plot is a somewhat hackneyed one, with the usual obvious situations, but the play was made by some bright and amusing dialogue. The burden of the reading fell on Mrs M. G. Sullivan and Mrs T. Nicholson, both of whom gave excellent characterisations. Mr W. Foggin provided an amusing diversion in the part of a bright young man with great hopes but no money. Mr E. S. Bell gave the uncle’s part, all the necessary dignity and .pomposity. Mrs H. Thompson and Miss Jean Strathdee doubled on their parts and read with their usual competence. Miss A. McLean came forward at short notice (as did Mrs Thompson) and gave to the part of the maid a bright and refreshing characterisation.
