DUPLICATION OF SERVICE. Sir, —It seems strange to me that so much waste and duplication of service should be allowed to exist in this time of petrol shortage. There is a glaring example even in such a remote district as Ngaroma. Timber trucks operating between Ngaroma and Te Kawa railway station make one and sometimes two trips each daily. On each occasion they go out from Ngaroma laden and return emptv. Other trucks have then to be 'employed to cart manures ano other freight from Te Kawa railway into Ngaroma, and these return to town empty. Is any comment needed ? Besides the question of saving petrol, there is the equally important one of saving the farmer expense. At present the freight on manures is prohibitive. For instance, the freight on a ton of lime valued at 17s amounts to over a pound. This cost could be cut to less than half if the available transport was used intelligently. Does anyone, know of similar examples of waste and 'inefficiency occurring in other districts ?—I am. R. L. NUGENT. Ngaroma. BRITISH ISRAELISM. Sir, —I wonder how the British Israel and Bible Prophets are now going to explain a British alliance With ( Russia. They tell us that Gog of Magog and the Prince of Roth are the Russians, and that it is the Russians with others who are the final enqmiy to be destroyed when Christ returns with His vesture dipped in blood, and wipes them out at the great battle of Armageddon. Britain or Tavshish is to be on the winning side and against Russia. Is all this pjrophetifc stuff just wishful thinking ?'•—l am, etc., 1 OLIVER. Te Awamutu. REPLY/ro DEXO. Sir, —Dexo’s letter reminds me of the lady who was watching a battalion of soldiers (of which her son was a member) on the march. After the parade had passed she made this remark: “ Everyone was out of step but our Jock ” —and that appears to be Dexo’s attitude to those who believe there is a controlling power. There are hundreds of millions who believe in a Being who controls the universe with such mathematical precision that scientists can roll many years ahead where certain planets will be in the heavens, when the sun and moon rise and when they set, the time of high and low tides, ecetera. Even the history of the world for 6000 years is given in a book called the Bible. No, Dexo, Richard Brothers may have been a propagandist that the British were Israel but that the British were Israel was known long before Richard Brothers came into being is an undisputed fact. Dexo’s reference to evolution is beside the question. There is no scientist in existence who can produce one solitary proof of his evolutionary theory, but assumptions in plenty. Dexo’s letter is simply a mass of false scents. In future will your correspondent please produce his proofs ? In conclusion, in Friday’s “ Courier ” appeared an advertisement of a book entitled “ Britain is Israel,” and the writer offers £250 to the first one who can prove that the identification marks can apply to any nation but Britain.
