WOMEN’S DIVISION

TE AWAMUTU BRANCH. MONTHLY MEETING. The Te Awamutu branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union held their monthly meeting in the Parish Hall on Thursday last. Mrs Pattison presided over a good attendance. The meeting opened with the repeating of the Creed. The president then asked all members to stand for a minute’s silence as a token of respect to the late Mrs Polson who had been founder of the W.D.F.U.

After the correspondence being dealt with, at the request of the Farmers’ Union, a sub-committee (namely, Mesdames Pattison, Kirkham and Ryburn) were set up to cooperate with the Farmers’ Union subcommittee in regard to further investigations in the matter of training girls for farm work in the case of emergency. The Paddy’s Market held in the street on 15th inst., resulted in £26 Is being handed over to the Patriotic Committee for soldiers’ parcels. The President made a further appeal for used silk stockings and fleece wool; also bed socks to be knitted for the Duchess of Northumberland’s Appeal for women Territorials. Mrs Godfrey gave an illustrated talk on the aims and objects of the W.D.F.U. This was much appreciated by all members. Two solos rendered by Mrs Owen Payne were very much enjoyed. The entry for British Children’s Clothes at the Waikato Winter Show was well supported, the garments going forward from this meeting; also several extras. It was decided that in future each district take it in turn to provide the social part of the meeting, the turn to take place the meeting following their tea day. Competitions resulted as follows: Shrubs, Mrs Eyre; fruit, Mrs McKee; flower, Mrs Grigg. The singing of the W.D.F.U. song brought a very interesting meeting to a close.

Afternoon tea was served by the Ngaroto ladies.
