ALIEN DOCTORS
EMPLOYMENT QUESTION. The question of treatment of alien medical practitioners was fraught with difficulty, stated a reply from the Director-Genera] of Health, Dr M. H. Watt, received at a meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Hospital Boaro. Once a doctor had‘been registered he was at liberty to practise anywhere in New Zealand, and some alien doctors had been practising for years in the same locality. On the other hand, the reply stated, it was realised that the interests of New Zealand 'medical men who had gone overseas should be protected,
an<; the whole question was being considered by the Minister of Health, Mr A. H. Nordmeyer. “ It sounds as if they are stalling us off,” remarked the chairman, Mr C. Lassen, who said he was not in favour of the suggestion that alien doctors should be employed in the hospitals.
