BOBBY CALVES
SUCCESSFUL SEASON. PROSPECTS FOR FUTURE. A total of 41,414 calves was handled by the Hamilton Federated. Bobby Calf Pool during the past season, states the chairman, Mr J. Perrow, in his report. The Hamilton Federation was associated again with the Waikato Federation, and the combined federations handled 195,930 calves. All calves were again killed at the Horotiu freezing works. During the season an endeavour was made to have the ♦ninimum carcase weight reduced if only as a temporary measure during the war, but the Department of Agriculture advised that but for the war a much heavier weight might be imposed by the Home authorities. Skin prices were very erratic during the season, tenders being called each month. Owing to the shipping shortage, prospects for the future are far froni bright, but all possible steps have been taken to ensure that the federation’s business. is continued, and a service will be provided for the pool areas.
